How do you get rid of old stale gasoline?

While working on the barn find Saab, noticed that the fuel gauge was showing a half full reading. I dismissed this as a false reading, but later pulled the fuel cap off and took a sniff - the unmistakable sweet, sweet varnish smell. So I need to drain 3 or 4 gallons of old gasoline. But what do I do with it after that?

You may be able to take it to Jiffy Lube or similar and have them dispose of it. I know they take used oil.

Place in old pickle jars, label kre b juice, put in backpacks, leave on random street corners .

It’s a perfect plan.

Very few actually have the appropriate equipment to handle waste fuel. If they do take it, they’re likely pouring it into the sump. I can’t say that for all, but the ones i worked for...

Oreilly or other auto parts places in my area take waste fluids and have the proper containment and removal.

I pour it back into the ground (onto ants nests). Now BEFORE  you call the EPA, that’s technically where it came from.

I always found it really hard to find a good way to get rid of small quantities of old gas. Most places that take used oil aren’t set up to dispose of volatile compounds, and gasoline especially is considered a contaminate in waste oil. You might actually talk to your fire department and see what they suggest as a “household fire hazard you don’t know what to do with.” One option is to leave it outside without the cap and let it slowly evaporate.

I had this issue not long ago. The old mini wouldn’t start. So I w ounds up mixing it with the lawnmowers fresh gas and it worked well enough....i guess it wasn't too far gone. But also check with the local parts stores.

Most counties have hazardous waste disposal a few times a year. Find out when yours is.

Ditto.....mixing 1/2 a gallon of the old stuff with fresh tank of ~10 gallons or more won’t be an issue. I’ve done this for years with my generator....even a 50/50 mix usually works fine with the generator. 10-1 or 20-1 in car will be fine (assuming your old gas doesn’t look like grape juice or something).

We have a yearly hazardous waste drop-off here in our county in NJ, they take anything, no questions asked, once a year.  Ask around if there is something similar near you.

I grow food in my yard in the  desert and have no need to poison ants with anything.

Most people throughout the world can live with ants without poisoning their soil.

Just leave it in an open pan in the sun, that way it evaporates instead of going into your well.

I’ve got about 8 gallons I’ll be draining out of the Chevelle’s tank. It’s only a couple years old (and had stabilizer in it) so I plan on running it in with the lawn mower gas; for something completely gone off, either let it evaporate (if it’s not a lot; don’t tell california either way) or start calling up places that take oil and see if they will take it.

Contaminated water that can cause cancer if you or your neighbors have well water or ants?

Poisoned streams or ants?

Also, dig to the core of the ant hill, place it in another ant hill. They’ll kill each other off.

Sorry if that comment came  off assholish. If you have an ant problem, the best and cleanest solution is to set up a small compost in your yard. The ants will flock to that rather than your house. Also, ants are very opportunistic, and will take over where other organisms have been kicked out. If you have a relatively healthy ecosystem in your yard, ants won’t take over.
